TAMBU RESEARCH

In the search for my roots and identity, I looked up “resistance” in music, and I found Tambu.

Tambu is a form of protest that simultaneously uses wisdom and humor. In Tambu art, music, dance and religion are interrelated, it arose from the plantations of Curacao.

Tambu represents the continuous bond with Africa, our African ancestors, and the Afro-Curaçaoan identity. Because of the condemnation and repression of Tambu by the dominant parties it hasn’t received the recognition it deserves.

My name is Lydienne Albertoe. I create visual narratives about social issues. I interpret the role of a designer as that of an active and critical citizen. As a designer i can't solve the issues of the world, but I can try to inform and communicate about it through design. My work reflects the society and is referred to as critical design. By mixing the fields of graphic design, design research and photography, I create different ways of visual communication.
