This project centers around Tambu as a form of cultural expression and resistance, deeply rooted in the history of Curaçao. Originating during slavery, Tambú offered enslaved people a way to express their emotions, stories, and critique through rhythm, song and dance. It became a powerful means of communication, survival, and transmission of knowledge. Through interviews, fieldwork and archival research, I explore how oral traditions like Tambú can inspire visual communication. Imagery, sound, graphic design and text come together to share the stories and knowledge surrounding Tambú, with space for the voices of practitioners and communities.
This project invites you to listen, feel, and reflect on how cultural heritage stays alive and the role design can play in that process.
BARÍ (VIERING VAN DE TROMMEL, SPELEN EN DANSEN) | Immaterieel Cultureel Erfgoed Bonaire
