An embrace of black bodies united by slavery, colorism and the fight against racism. The positive self-image of these black bodies was hard to find. The conscious or unconscious pursuit of a Eurocentric beauty ideal played an important role. The black bodies in my collected comic books were represented as lazy, stupid, ignorant, primal, obsessive, self-indulgent, angry, physically strong, animalistic and violent. Depicted with dark skin tone, frizzy hair, flattened nose and huge lips. These are stereotypes that we struggle against to this day. Over the years, we, the black bodies, have developed the right tools to fight against black pain. The negative self-image fades into the background, we learn to love ourselves and determine our own values.
