Untitled (Facing Blackness)

May 2021

Spatial installation commissioned by The Black Archive and constructed from ninety triangular building blocks of cardboard. This acts as a warm embrace. Inside the triangles, however, are peepholes behind which texts and images recur about black bodies. These illustrate the ways in which imagery and wording in comics attest to the normalization of slavery, colorism and racism. I made this intentionally obscure because the work is an ode to the ways in which, we, the black bodies, have nevertheless learned to love ourselves and define our own values.
