Video (00:48 min) showcasing my conceptual website Wikifema, a Wikipedia-inspired platform created by women, for women, and about women. Wikifema is envisioned as the first and only encyclopedia focused entirely on amplifying women’s voices, offering tools, resources, and networks to support self-expression, knowledge-sharing, and empowerment.

While Wikipedia remains a valuable source of information, it has also become a space where many women and gender non-conforming contributors face harassment. Ranging from inappropriate comments to serious threats. One well-documented case involves a user known as Lightbreather, who was targeted by a fellow male Wikipedian. Her image was falsely posted on a pornographic site and when she raised concerns, she was told by another user, “The easiest way to avoid being called a cunt is not to act like one.” These incidents reflect a wider issue: Wikipedia’s severe gender gap. Of all volunteer editors, approximately 91% are men, 8% are women and just 1% are gender non-conforming.

Wikifema aims to counter this imbalance by creating an inclusive and safe online environment. Free from ridicule, abuse or harassment, where women can confidently contribute, connect and grow. It offers a space where collective knowledge is not only preserved but redefined through care, equity and community.
